SES’s Mobile branch served as the Geotechnical Engineer of Record for a new manufacturing facility for Continental Motors in Mobile, Ala. SES performed subsurface explorations consisting of conventional soil borings with standard penetration tests (SPT) and cone penetrometer test (CPT) soundings which helped our engineers to develop site preparation and foundation design recommendations for the facility. The new facility consists of a two-story office, approximately 56,299 ft2 in plan area with an adjoining 28-foot clear height single story manufacturing facility totaling approximately 221,000 ft2 in plan area as well as new parking, associated driveways, and loading dock areas. Both buildings are comprised of tilt-up concrete panel construction. SES also performed extensive materials testing services during the construction phases of the project including pile monitoring, concrete and asphalt testing, density testing, soil gradations, flatness testing, and other special inspections.
