R.J. Gonzales, III, P.E. Recognized by MACE as Young Engineer of the Year
The Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE) recently recognized SES Engineer, R.J. Gonzales, III, P.E. as the Young Engineer of the Year through their annual awards program. MACE recognizes the success of individuals who enhance the engineering profession through their contributions to industry, education and the community.
“MACE recognizes engineers who are positively impacting the Mobile Area,” said Thad Hendrix, P.E., Chairman of MACE and Project Manager with Project Design Group, Inc. “These people can inspire the next generation. We are honored to recognize them. In addition, MACE supporters contribute to the MACE-Raburn Scholarship Fund at the University of South Alabama, College of Engineering.” Awards recipients include some of the most influential engineers and businesses in the Mobile area.
R.J. Gonzales, III, P.E. is a Registered Professional Geotechnical Engineer with SES where he serves as the Construction Materials Testing Manager for the Mobile branch. R.J. began with SES in 2002 while pursuing his degree at the University of South Alabama where he was involved in numerous organizations such as the Student Government Association and Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He holds license registrations in Alabama (#31950), Mississippi (#20449), and Louisiana (#39330).
R.J.’s expertise lies in roadway and paving design, construction materials testing, shallow foundation design, deep foundation design, settlement monitoring instrumentation and vibration monitoring. He served as SES’s Project Engineer on the ThyssenKrupp project for more than six years overseeing work on multiple subcontracts for initial site rough grading, construction materials testing and pile monitoring. At the height of the project, R.J. oversaw 16 technicians who performed work from a mobile on-site laboratory.
R.J. is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He is also a member of the Association of General Contractors (AGC) Mobile Chapter where he is serving as the 2016 Bonanza Day Chair; and is Vice President of AGC’s Young Constructors Forum. He is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Mobile. R.J.’s community involvement includes membership in a Mardi Gras organization, coaching at Westside Ball Park, as well as coaching and PTO volunteer for Corpus Christi Catholic School.
